The HOA newsletter:

It’s the proverbial boil on the neck of every HOA manager since the dawn of time. The painfully uninformed – yet somehow “know-it-all” homeowner. How many times have you asked, “didn’t you read the HOA newsletter?” You’ve tried delivering them. Posting them. There was that helicopter stunt. None of it worked. And nobody knew what was going on. For the frustrated HOA manager, there is good news and bad news.

The bad news:

They are never going to read your newsletter – at least not cover to cover.

They may read a headline or two. The ambitious ones might even skim through for the stuff that looks important (if you’ve made it easy to find with bullet points). But nobody is going to sit down with a bowl of popcorn to read the HOA newsletter.

In fact, HOA newsletter circulation is at it’s lowest rate in recent history.

Why?

Think about it. Newspaper readership is going the way of the dodo. Most of today’s publications have stayed successful by migrating to a digital format. In doing so, they’ve also modified their style of reporting to reflect the new ways people like to get informed.

Sending homeowners a paper HOA newsletter is the same as expecting them to get informed in the old way. The old way takes a lot of time and energy. It’s increasingly obsolete. And worst of all, it’s boring. You might as well use a hammer and chisel.

The good news:

Modern communication methods and social media can help to provide resources for your HOA newsletter. Because lets face it some homeowners are still part of the old school and they want and expect a paper newsletter. A lot of the same principles still apply – Keep it short, easy to read and with content that homeowner want and need. A HOA newsletter template can help to maintain a format that’s easy to read and follow.
